World Orthodontic Health Day Celebration 2024

15 May 2024

The venue was the auditorium of Bangalore Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital. The target audience were first and second year undergraduate students. First & foremost, they were introduced to the speciality of Orthodontics by Dr. Chaitra. She further made them aware about the Indian Orthodontic Society and World Federation of Orthodontics. The audience were shared a Google Form which had a few general questions about orthodontic treatment.

The Principal, Dr. Vinaya.S.Pai, who is also a professor at the Department of Orthodontics, briefed the audience about the importance of orthodontic treatment. She also cautioned them about risky products like DIY aligners which could be a potential hazard.

This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Mrunmayee Gholap, which catered to FAQs & myths with respect to orthodontic treatment. She stressed on the importance of first orthodontic visit where growth modulation can be done at the right age. The audience were also informed about various options of appliances available. They were further motivated by showing some smile transformations of patients treated in the department. The presentation was drawn to a close by projecting the IOS influencer videos which urged everyone to get treated by qualified orthodontists only. They were also asked to share these through their social media.

To lighten the mood, the stage was taken over by Dr. Akash, first year orthodontic post-graduate to render a musical performance.

Dr. Manjunath Hegde, who heads the Department of Orthodontics, reiterated about smartly choosing the right appliance at the right age. He then revealed the core reason of conducting this program being limited exposure of first and second year undergraduates to subjects like orthodontics. Now, since they were made familiar with these facts, they could also educate their near and dear ones and make sure treatment is done at the right time. All the students who attended the program were encouraged to visit the department for screening for orthodontic correction.

The same Google Form that was shared in the beginning was refilled by students to assess how much they learnt from the talk. The program was concluded by distribution of light snacks and a cake cutting ceremony.
